HISTORY
Early Days (1996–1998)
The band's beginnings date back to 1996 when Josef "Pepíno" Vích (guitar), Radek "Bull" Herrmann (guitar), and Eda Bílkovský (drums) came together, followed by Petr "Mramor" Mramornov (bass) and Jaroslav Tauchmann (vocals).
The band aimed to play thrash-death metal, and their first concert was in the punk club "U Váchy." Soon, Jaroslav Tauchmann left the band and was replaced by Jan "Korka" Kolarovič. The musical style did not change, and the band played a total of 3 concerts in the Liberec region. Around the middle of 1998, Bull (now Header), Mramor, and Korka left the band.
Formation of the Band (from 1998)
This Liberec band was officially formed in 1998. Its founding members were Josef "Pepíno" Vích (guitar), Eduard Bílkovský (drums), Michal "Tazzmann" Patrný (vocals), and Petr "Vetchý" Řeřicha (bass). Pikodeath played pure thrash metal, but thanks to Tazz's murmur, they were already referred to as thrash-death.
In 2000, Vetchý left the band and was replaced by Filip "Fíla" Fořt, who originally came as a substitute, but the music impressed him so much that he became a permanent member. At that time, he already had many musical activities (he also played with the band Koule), but he was more interested in the big beat genre.
2001
In 2001, they released their first demo, "Veselá kopa" (Happy Crowd). After recording the demo, Fíla left because he wanted to focus more on alternative music. After less than four months of searching for a bassist, Milan Tvrzník became the new member. He had no experience with performing, as he had never played with any band before. At the end of the year, drummer Eduard Bílkovský left the band overnight – he lost the desire to perform.
A crisis period followed, as it was difficult to find a drummer who could handle deathgrind, and it looked like Pikodeath would continue to function with a drum machine. Fortunately, this did not happen, and Jan Zrůst, who had previously played in the Liberec formation Krucipüsk and the heavy metal band Nero, temporarily occupied the drum stool. Pikodeath began to perform more often again – throughout Bohemia and Moravia, and to gain more underground awareness.
2002–2004
In October 2002, Milan joined the army, and the bass post was temporarily taken over by Petr "Mramor" Mramornov, who played in the Liberec HC/punk group Wojtyla. Subsequently, drummer Martin "Macetazo" Kocián joined the band, successfully played his first concert on January 25, 2003, and thus became an official member of the band. At this time, Pikodeath participated in the Avalanche Tour through northern Bohemia and Moravia, meeting the Colombian band Purulent at two events, to whom they dedicated the song "Columbia" after a tragic car accident and the death of guitarist Dave. Pikodeath played alongside more famous bands such as Purgatoty, Krabathor, Hypnos, Vader, Root, and for the first time in Germany and Slovakia. They also recorded the song "Boneyard" by the American Impetigo for the tribute CD "Tribute to Boneyard."
2005–2007
In 2005, Tazzmann and Macetazo left the band, which led to a crisis period. Macetazo went to the hardcore bands Lewisit and Act of God, and Tazzmann ended his musical career completely. In 2006, after a long period of searching and experimenting, singer Martin "Dinosaurus" Zajíc and drummer Míra Habětínek settled in Pikodeath.
2008–2015
The band recorded the album "Nasurowo" (Roughly), followed by a series of concerts in Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. After long personal disagreements, singer Dinosaurus and drummer Míra left the band in 2010. Hektor, who had been active in Return to Innocence from Mladá Boleslav for years, replaced the drummer, and Kuba Wagner temporarily took over the vocals. However, this line-up broke up at the beginning of 2011 when Kuba and Hektor left the band. Macetazo returns to the drummer's seat, and Kwardis becomes the singer. Unfortunately, Kwardis announced his departure in the summer of 2011 due to time constraints. The band was therefore looking for a singer, while Pepíno temporarily filled the role of singer. In November 2011, singer Loppi, a former member of Carpe Noctum, joined the band. Milan ran out of energy and left the band in 2012. For half a year, the band was looking for a bassist, and during that time they played in threes. In the fall, bassist Lu-ci, who was also a member of Carpe Noctum, joined the band. The band becomes Czech-German, and Pikodeath recorded another studio album, "Tief in Dir" (Deep inside you), in Davos studio.
2016–2024
Lu-ci left the band and was replaced by Michal "FiDo" Filip. The band in this current form recorded their first official music video for the song "Time to Die" and in the fall of 2017, again in Davos studio, another studio album called "Insane." After the pre-Christmas release party in the Liberec club Bunkr, they embarked on a tour of the Czech Republic and Germany. In 2019, they appeared for the first time at the Czech Death Fest festival in Červený Kostelec.
In June 2021, "Tribute to V.A.R. – Variatorum" was released. To honor the band V.A.R., Pikodeath contributed their single "Gegen visionen" in the original version "Proti vizím" (Against Visions) together with bands such as Tortharry, Big Boss, and Pačess. A new music video "My Four Walls" from the album "Tief in Dir" was released dedicated to singer Loppi for his 11th anniversary as a frontman, and at the end of September 2022, the band again recorded their 4th studio album in Davos studio, which is more focused on death and black metal. The album called "Killed by Silence" was officially released on May 1, 2023, and the first anniversary LP of the same name for the band's 25th anniversary was released and christened on December 30 in Liberec in a unique series of 250 copies.
2025–Present
In April 2025, the band released its first collector's demo "Veselá Kopa" on MC cassettes through Dead Maggoty Productions. On one side is the entire demo plus two bonus tracks, and on the other side is a recording of the live performance "Live in Death A.D." in 2004. This is followed by further concerts in the Czech Republic and Germany, also for the first time at the Obscene Extreme festival in Trutnov.
